José Antonio Bowen, dean of the Meadows School of the Arts, will deliver the 2013 Paul G. Bulger Lecture titled “Teaching and the Future of Education.”

Bowen has been a pioneer in active learning and the use of technology in teaching, including podcasts and online games, and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, USA Today, and US News and World Report and on NPR for his book Teaching Naked: How Moving Technology Out of Your College Classroom Will Improve Student Learning (2012). In the book, Bowen introduces new ways to think about learning and technology. A strong advocate for the unique and pivotal role of teacher-student interaction in the education process, Bowen also discusses and presents a multitude of ways to use technology to enhance the vitality and quality of that interaction. He has been the keynote speaker at numerous national conferences, including the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), exploring topics related to teaching, teaching and technology, and the pivotal role of faculty and teachers in the learning process.

The Dr. Paul G. Bulger Lectureship was established by the Buffalo State Foundation on February 9, 1967, to honor President Paul Bulger for his years of dedicated service and leadership to Buffalo State, the Niagara Frontier community, and the State of New York. The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, call (716) 878-5609.
